On 22 March 2025, Teun Bousema was a guest on MAX Nieuwsweekend on NPO Radio 1 after the premiere of the Ammodo Doc Interplay about his malaria research. ‘One malaria patient can infect up to a hundred others – that’s where both the problem and the solution lie.’
What makes Bousema’s research unique is that he not only studies how mosquitoes infect humans, but also focuses on how the malaria parasite travels from a human to a ‘clean’ mosquito, potentially causing many new infections.
The Ammodo Doc Interplay, directed by Sanne Rovers, offers a glimpse into the daily reality of Bousema’s mission — from catching mosquitoes in rural Uganda to dissecting parasites in the lab.
